COACH MANDEE STARN
Head Coach 2016,
Girls Head Coach 2014-2015,
Assistant Coach 2012-2013
Coach Mandee is a lifelong runner who grew up in Montara, California and graduated Half Moon Bay High School after spending a year abroad studying in Sweden. Gå framöver och ber henne att säga något på svenska! Back in California, she attended the University of California at Davis where she received her bachelor’s degree in Rhetoric and Communication Management before completing her master’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She currently works at San Ramon Regional Medical Center as a licensed Speech Language Pathologist.
While she did not run for her high school or college teams, Coach Mandee has wasted no time since then having competed in approximately a hundred races ranging in distance from 5K to the marathon, including 3 Boston Marathon appearances. She has PRs (both set as a master’s runner!) of 20:08 for 5K (2011) and 3:19:44 for the marathon (2012).
Prior to coaching at Monte Vista, she assisted with the local CYO cross country and track & field teams as well as local USATF youth club Oak Hill Racing. She enjoys sharing her passion for the sport with younger runners and hopes to help them establish a healthy lifestyle while learning important life lessons such as goal setting and how to deal with the ups and downs that are inevitable along the way. Her three daughters, Callie (MV 13) and Brooke (MV 16), and Annie (MV 19) have all run or are still running with MVXC. Brooke is currently running for Harvard in her sophomore season.
Coach Davis retired from his head coach position at the end of the historic 2015 cross country season. Coach Davis continues to help the team with all sorts of administrative matters and will be the co-meet director for the 2016 Monte Vista Invitational.

Quote: “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or gazelle - when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.” (African proverb)
Coach Mike Huntsman
Former Head Coach Mike Huntsman returns to assist the Cross Country team once again. Coach Huntsman acts as Co- Meet Director for the annual Monte Vista Invitational, as well as handling the entries and scoring for ALL the EBAL XC meets! A long time "tech junkie", Coach Huntsman brings his vast knowledge of computers and programs to enable the smooth scoring of all our league meets. Coach Huntsman retired from teaching at Monte Vista at the end of the 2016 school year.
As an area XC Coach for over 28 years, Coach Huntsman grew the program here at Monte Vista into the largest in the EBAL. He successfully coached numerous CIF level athletes and teams, and is resonsponsible for many of the great traditions that MVXC enjoys today. He continues to better the program here at Monte Vista through his dedicated involvement!
