Class of 2021

Aakersh Mathur - University of California, Santa Barbara

Aakersh was a four year XC and Track and Field athlete for the Mustangs. In 2019 he was third team All-EBAL in XC and played an integral role at NCS cross country championships placing 10th to break the 5 year hiatus and send the men’s cross country team to State. At the CIF State Championships he placed 48th individually in 15:54. He spent his senior year as team captain and ended his high school career with a best of 9:19 for 3200m, and 4:20 for 1600m.

Meredith Corda-University of California, Berkeley

Meredith was a four year varsity track and xc athlete  for MVHS and one of the school's most decorated female distance athletes. She was the individual winner of the North Coast section cross-country championships in 2014 and 2016, team captain and MVP in her senior seasons of cross country and track and helped the girls' XC team win NCS championships 2013, 2014 and 2015. She placed seventh at Division II State championship meet her senior year.  She is number 2 all time in the 1600 with an impressive  4:49.9 and is part of the recond holding 4 x 1600 team which was third in the nation in 2016 with a time of 20:19.

Daniel Maneloveg-University of San Francisco

Daniel was a 4 year XC and track athlete for the Mustangs, 3 of them as varsity. He was part of the 2015 NCS Champion team and instrumental in the men's program most successful back to back to back seasons! He was three-time All-East Bay Athletic League , ran a personal best, 4:20.05, in the 16k at the Tri Valley Championships and a 9:33.72  for the 3200m  best at  at the EBAL Championships. ... Daniel earned All-NCS cross country honorable mention as a senior. He was team captain his senior year. ​

Tristan Miller-Univeristy of California, Santa Barbara

Tristan was a four year track and XC athlete, three as varsity. As team Captain his senior year, he led the Mustangs to an 11th place finish at the CIF California State Meet, running an impressive 15:41 for the challenging 5k (tying the school record with former teammate Tim Chrisman for the best ever on that course from MV).  He was part of the North Coast Section Championship winning teams for cross country and soccer his junior year. As an individual, Tristan took third both his junior and senior years at the NCS Cross Country Championships. In track, holds the second fastest 1600 for MV with a 4:17 PR, the 9th fastest 800 at 1:58 and is part of the third fastest 4 x 400 team which clocked in at 3:21.4.

Class of 2016

Brooke Starn-Harvard University

Brooke is  MVHS's most decorated female distance athlete, currently holding school course records for xc on all but one course she raced and the school record for the 1600, 3200, DMR and the 4 x 1600 (3rd in the Nation). She was ranked Flotrack's 18th  best recruit in the nation her senior year. In her four years at Monte Vista, Brooke was First Team All EBAL in both cross country and track every year. She qualified for State as an individual in XC all 4 years, placing 2nd in D1 in state her senior year and California State track finals 3 years, reaching State Podium for the 2 of those years, in the 1600. Her freshman year she broke the school records for the 1600 and the 3200 and continued to break her own records each of the following 3 years, capping it off in 4:47 for the1600 and  10:19 for the 3200. She also set the EBAL record her sophomore and senior year for the 1600 and is currently on the NCS all time top 10 for both the 1600 and 3200.

Heidi Furhiman-Brigham Young University

Heidi is one of MV's best ever in track-holding school records in the 800, 4 x 400, 4 x 1600 and DMR. She is a 3 time state finalist in track for the 800, with a PR of 2:09.7 Her freshmen year, she broke the school's 800 meter record, was part of breaking the girl's 4x4 and Distance Medley Relay records, was a state finalist for the 800 meters, and was awarded MVP. She was out her sophomore track season due to a concussion from soccer but came back her junior year to brake her previously set 800 meter record with a 2:09, became NCS campion, and again was a state finalist for the 800 meters. She received the "Best Come Back" award that season. Her senior year, she was voted team captain and ended her season as a state finalist in the 800, and made the top 10 board in the 1600 with a 4:53.

Tim Chrisman-Cal Poly

Tim ran track and XC for four years for MVHS, three of  those as varsity. As a senior, he took down the 1972, 3200 record when he finished 11th at the 2016 CIF State Track Championships, with a time of 9:06.60 ... He also clocked an eighth-place 3,000m time of 8:47.19 at the Stanford Invitational, along with a sixth-place performance of 4:21.99 in the 1,600m at the East Bay Athletic League Championships in the spring of 2016 ... in cross country for the Mustangs, came in 76th place at the state championship meet in 2015, running the 5k Woodward Park course in Fresno in 15:41.20.

Class of 2014
Erin Herting-University of Hawaii 
Erin ran four years of cross country and track for the Mustangs, 3 years as varsity. She was team captain for both teams her senior year. She was a scoring member of the NCS D1 Championship team in 2013 and ran a PR of 19:35 at Woodward Park. She finished her senior year with a PR 1600 of 5:18.

Class of 2013

Katharine Smiley - Tulane University
Joining the Green Wave this year will be 2012 Captain Katharine Smiley.  During her MV Career Katharine was 2nd team all league in 2011 and 1st team in 2012.   She qualified as an individual to the 2012 CIF State meet after finishing 8th overall at the NCS Championships.   In Track Katharine ends her stellar career as the #8 all-time 1600 runner with a 5:10 PR.  She qualified for MOC in both her Jr and Sr seasons.

Meghan Nesbit - UC Davis University
Meghan is a member of the Aggies Triathlon team where she leveraged her MVXC varsity running experience to help her become one of the top female members of the team.  She was the top finisher this past season at a Triathlon at UC Berkeley.

Amy Ingram - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College
Joining the Athenas as a hurdler and relay specialist, Amy was a four year varsity track and cross country runner for the Mustangs.  As a freshman at MV, Amy was key in helping the girls XC team capture the NCS title - and repeated that effort many times over her career.

Class of 2012

Andrew Feldman - San Francisco State University Gators
Drew joins MVXC teammate Michael Garaventa (2011) at Division II local power SF State. At Monte Vista - Drew finished 3rd in the 2011 NCS Div 1 race, earning an invitation to the California State meet.  Drew was a Sr Captain and long time varsity runner for the Stangs.

Trevor Fuhriman - BYU Cougars
Trevor joins one of the nations top NCAA D1 cross country teams after his amazing career here at Monte Vista.  During his high school XC and Track career Trevor qualified for the CIF State meet twice in track and once in cross country.  As a junior in 2011, Trevor broke the 40 year old 1600 meter record held by the legendary Bill Soloman.  He went on to rebreak the record as a senior, running 4:13, and also took down the 800 meter record in 1:54.

Class of 2011

Jill Anderson - Johns Hopkins University
A senior captain for the Mustangs, Jill made the Johns Hopkins U team in 2011 as an invited walk-on.  She is now in her 2nd season with the Bluejays, having participated in both cross country and indoor track.  At Monte Vista, Jill was a key member of the 2009 NCS Championship XC squad and a consistent top 5 performer in 2010.  Her specialty in track was the 800 meters.

Michael Garaventa - San Francisco State University
A four year MVXC veteran, Michael competed for a spot on the Gators XC team last fall, beating out several recruits to earn one of only 13 roster spots handed out!  After redshirting his freshman year, Michael is competing full time for the Gators in 2012!  A steady improver throughout his MV career, Michael ran 16:43 at Mt SAC and was a consistent contributor to the varsity team in 2010.

Kate Sallstrom - Diablo Valley College
Kate took a year off after graduation but joined the DVC cross country team in the fall of 2012 and finished the season as the teams #1 runner!  She ran 19:18 to finish 14th at the NorCal Community College Championships on the tough Crystal Springs course.  At Monte Vista, Kate only ran two seasons but quickly became one of the top JV runners, earning varsity alternate status and a trip to Mt SAC where she medaled in her race!

Class of 2010

Nicole Aha - University of California Davis
Nicole was a four year varsity runner for the Mustangs, owning PR's of 11:12 for the 3200 and 5:15 for the 1600 in track.  In cross country, she owns the 2nd fastest time for a MV girl at the CIF State meet (Woodward Park course).  Nicole was Captain of the 2009 NCS Championship XC Team.  In 2011, Nicole joined the Aggies XC team.  In 2012, she had a strong year running the Steeplechase in Track.

Anna Hoyt - Azusa Pacific University - Azusa CA
Anna ran one season for the APU in cross country.  As a senior at Monte Vista, Anna was a key member of the NCS Champions Girls team of 2009.  She was the EBAL Frosh/Soph Champion her Sophomore year at Monte Vista.

Connor Donley - Southern Oregon University Raiders 
Connor was a 3 year MVXC team member, and was part of the 2007 NCS Championship team.  In track Connor ran middle distance, competing in the 400 up to the 3200.  Connor has completed in both track and cross country for Southern Oregon as he enters his Junior season.

Mike Roderick - University of California - Santa Barbara (UCSB) 
Mike ran one cross country season for UCSB.  At Monte Vista, Mike was EBAL XC Champion in 2008, going undefeated in the league season.  He capped off the season by winning the North Coast Section Division 1 Individual Championship in an amazing time of 15:19 for the 3 mile course.  In track, Mike owned PR's of 4:20 in the 1600 meters and 9:32 in the 3200 which rank him in the top 5 all-time at Monte Vista.

Class of 2008

Bhavik Kanzaria - University of California - Santa Barbara 
College summary:  2011: Bhavik Kanzaria competed in six meets for the Gauchos...Kanzaria ran a 24:47 at the Stanford Invitational, good for an impressive 33rd-place finish...Ran new best 24:26.8 at the Big West Championships 8k, placing 15th overall...At the Pre-Nationals 8k, he placed 82nd with a time of 25:34....Competed in the NCAA Division 1 West Regional 10k, placing 82nd with a time of 31:06. 2010:Finished 121st at the NCAA West Region Championship with a time of 33:39.18 10k course...Clocked a 25:21.4 to finish 122nd at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind....Placed 50th at the Big West Championship meet in a time of 26:01.3. 2008: Bhavik Kanzaria redshirted his freshman season at UCSB.
High School: Competed in the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) and was named to the All-League team in the 1600m and 3200m in both 2007 and 2008...Was All-League in cross country his senior season...Also awarded All-North Coast Section honors in 2007...Was a member of Monte Vista's relay squad that set the school's distance medley record at the Arcadia Invitational. The squad took third overall.

Brett Zorich - University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV Rebels)
Brett ran several cross country races at UNLV, but it was her track and field career that made all the headlines.  In 2012, Brett went on a tear at the end of the season, qualifying from Conference to Regionals and all the way to the NCAA D1 Championships.  Running the 800 - she ran 2:04 to become the 2nd fastest Rebel of all time and earn a second team All American honor!  Brett continues to contribute to the running community, as she has returned to coach at MVHS, at UC Davis and is currently the Head Coach at Saint Mary's College, where she's had outstanding success. 

 


Dustin Harris - University of California San Diego (tritons) 
Dustin wrapped up his stellar career at UCSD in 2012 and has now moved on to seek his medical degree at UCLA.  In college, Dustin had a breakout season in track in 2011, running an amazing 1:52.48 PR in the 800.  He also earned All-Academic for the Tritons.  HIGH SCHOOL: A 2008 graduate of Monte Vista High School in Danville, Calif... Placed fifth at NCS in the 800M in 2008... Team placed 10th at the Div. I State Cross Country Championships... Recorded personal bests of 1:55.75 in the 800M, 4:35 in the 1600 and 5:11 in the 1600 Steeplechase... 130lb wrestling weight-class East Bay Athletic League Champ.

Class of 2006

Daniela Gergley - University of Southern California
Daniela competed in the 2006/2007season for the Lady Trojans, finishing as high as their #3 runner at one meet.  She is a biomedical engineering major at USC.  Her high school bio:

High School: Gergley is a 2006 graduate of Monte Vista (Calif.) High...She ran both cross country and track in high school and qualified for the cross country state championships three times and in track once...She was All-Orange County as a sophomore, was All-Contra County first team and was named Orange County Register Athlete of the Week once...Had a personal-best time of 17:38 in cross country, 5:09 in the 1600m and 11:00 in the 3200m.

Chris Simpson - Santa Baraba City College / Diablo Valley College
Chris competed for SBCC for one XC season, advancing to the California Jr College State Championships in his only year.  While at Monte Vista, Chris was a two time EBAL individual champion (2004, 2005) and finished 3rd (2004) and 2nd (2005) at the NCS meet - advancing to CIF State.  In track, Chris tied the school record in the 800 meters (1:54.11) and nearly hit the 1600 mark (4:19 converted).

Paul Suffoletta - Cal Tech (Pasadena)
Paul competed for Cal Tech during the 2006 season for Cal Tech in cross country and track.

Class of 2005

Matt Bieniosek - MIT  
Matt ran cross country and track for MIT.  He has a 800m PR of 1:54.3 and a 8K PR of 26.42.  Matt competed for MIT all four years that he attended undergraduate studies there, running in numerous cross country and track races for the team.   He is now enrolled in the Graduate Engineering program there!

Geoff Nunns - Johns Hopkins University  
Geoff ran all four years of the Johns Hopkins Bluejays.  By the time he was a senior, he was their #1 finisher at their Conference Championships, as well as in the ME Regionals.  He had the 3rd fastest time (8K) on his team. Geoff also ran Track (distance) for JHU.

Nicole Krampf - UC Santa Cruz  
Nicole ran for at least one season for the Lady Banana Slugs!  She also returned for the Alumni race several times!

Class of 2004

Emily McGregor - UC San Diego  
While at Monte Vista, Emily was the NCS Individual Champion in 2003 and helped to lead the MV Girls team to the CIF State meet in 2002 and 2003.  Running for D2 power UC San Diego, Emily had one of the strongest collegiate careers of any MVXC runner.  She was a multiple All-American in track, and holds the fastest 10K time in the history of UCSD (35:26).  That time earned her 7th place at the NCAA D2 championships in 2008.  She is #2 all-time in the 5000 meters (17:14).  In cross country, she helped UCSD to the NCAA D2 championships as a Sophomore, and was among the top UCSD runners during her storied career there. 


 

Peter Nunns - Williams College 
Peter was the first of three Nunn's brothers to compete in Cross Country at Monte Vista, and ran for Div III powerhouse Williams College for four years.

Brittany Rezowalli - Loyola Marymount University (LMU)  
a member of the 2003 NCS championship team and two time State Meet participant. 
HS Bio: a 2004 graduate of Monte Vista High School in Danville, Calif... participated in cross country, track, and soccer... clocked times of 5:19 for 1600m and 10:59.6 for 3000m... was an All-CIF cross country selection as a senior... was All-East Bay Athletic League in soccer and track as a senior...

At LMU... 2006-07... placed 16th at the WCC Championship with a time of 23:33... finished third for the Lions at the Cal State Fullerton Invitational, the Aztec Invitational, and the Stanford Invitational... finished fourth for the Lions at the NCAA Regional, posting a time of 23:37... in track, posted a season-best 3000m time at the UCSB/Westmont Triangular (10:45.44), a season-best 1500m time at the Ben Brown Invitational (4:55.22), and a season-best 5000m time at the Occidental Distance Carnival (18:33.75)... 2005-06... a first-team All-WCC selection after finishing eighth at the WCC Championship (18:24)... posted time of 22:25 at the NCAA West Regional... in track, finished seventh in the 3000m at the Pomona Pitzer All-Comers meet (10:36.8)... 2004... led LMU at the WCC Championship with a time of 19:15, good for a top-15 finish overall... finished second among the Lions at the NCAA Regionals with a time of 23:25...

Josh competed for Lewis & Clark College, running cross country.

Class of 2001

Susan Chan  -  Yale University
Susan competed for Yale University in track and cross country.  At the time, Yale's women's cross country team was nationally ranked.  In 2003, Susan's 5th place finish at the ECAC Championship race helped Yale win first place.
Susan held the 1600 and 3200 track records here at Monte Vista from 2000 until 2012.  She led the 2000 team to the XC State Meet and was a four-time individual cross country state meet qualifier (at the time, the first in school history to do so). She was also an individual qualifier in track. 

 


Kristin Schleicher - Stanford University

Kristin was also a member of the 2000 State Meet team.  After high school, she attended Stanford University.  While she didn't compete for Stanford, she did keep running and was present at several local races over the years.  In 2006, Kristin completed the Boston Marathon, finishing in 3 hours and 34 minutes.  Kristin is now a Graduate student in Chemistry at MIT.

Class of 1988

Chris Leavell

Chris has been a regular at the Alumni races, cementing himself in MVXC lore by pushing a baby stroller the entire way in 2010.  Chris only ran cross country for one year at Monte Vista (Fall of 1984), and at UCSB fell in love with cycling where he was part of the team that won a national championship in 1993. He went on to compete as a semi-pro cyclist for 3 years, but running has always been a source of enjoyment and cross training.  His wife, Catherine, is a trail runner.

Class of 1987

Mike Abrams

Mike was a member of the 1985 XC team (last league title for the boys).  He was a member of the MV track team that won league titles in '84, '86 and '87.  He was All-Conference in the 3000m Steeplechase while attending DVC in 1989.  Mike came out of 'retirement' in 1996 and has been racing strong ever since.  He has raced for the Forward Motion team (1996-98, 2003-2005), Fleet Feet (2006-2008) and now for the Asics Aggies (2009 - ) where he helped their masters team wih the Pacific Association XC championship.  He has twice won the Silicon Valley Maration (2:40.28 PR), and this in 2009 ran a 2:44 at the CIM (California International Marathon).  Mike attended his first alumni race in 2009 AFTER running a 16 distance run, a feat he duplicated again in 2011!
