Despite a slightly smaller turnout (where were the current squad girls?), the third annual Alumni race featured some exciting battles, as well as good cheer and friendship among Alumni and current team members. Last years individual winners did not race, so new champions were assured as the gun went off.
Recent graduate Bhavik Kanzaria - UCSB bound - pulls away from Sr Mike Roderick in the hills, to blow away the field in a course record 10:39 clocking. Mike finishes 2nd, while fellow senior Connor Donley is 3rd, just holding off 1988 Alumni Chris Leavell, who finishes fourth for the second straight year! Close behind are graduates Clinton McAdams, Jon Gelhurfe and Cameron Trembley-Adams, sealing the victory for the alumni. Alex Morris, Colton Anderson and Brandon Rebottaro round out the Current Team scoring for the boys.
On the girls side, Jr Nicole Aha battles close with UNLV bound graduate Brett Zorich, with the two running side by side for the first stages of the race. In the hills, Nicole pulls away for the victory, with Brett holding on for second in a PR time. Jr Kimmy Abood finishes close behind Brett for 3rd, while Jr Natalie Scott takes 4th. Alumni Kim Chin (5th) edges her freshman sister Christina. However, the current team have no more finishers, and have to take an incomplete score, while Abbey Van Muijen and Kristen Hugo and Jamie Callahan storm across the finish to complete the second straight year of Alumni girls power!
Post race talk centered on who wasn't there, and plans were made to increase attendance for the 2009 edition. See you there!
